UTAD pilot experience installation

19 junio 2019

In recent months, the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), a partner of O2P, has taken some important steps with respect to its installation of Pilot Experience. After choosing a suitable area, integrated into Rede Natura 2000, some elements of the team participated in a landowners meeting to obtain authorization to use the field for the purpose of the pilot experience. This stage took a while and only in March an agreement was reached and it was marked symbolically with the establishment of the project poster in the field.

Simultaneously, UTAD prepared for the controlled burning that had to occur, while weather conditions allowed. On March 19, a first approach was made and controlled burning took place coordinated by Carlos Rossa and Paulo Fernandes (UTAD). Due to adverse weather conditions, the operation was interrupted and resumed at the end of April, this time coordinated by Fatima Lucas (GTF Vila Real). UTAD is now preparing the following stages that involve the characterization of vegetation, the installation of fences around the plot and the acquisition of animals (Garrano horses) for grazing.
