Phytovolume sampling in the field and drone flight to estimate phytovolume through images (Alcóntar pilot area, Almería)

09 diciembre 2020

From November 16 to 19, 2020, the EEZ-CSIC team together with CMAOT personnel carried out the samplings (floristic composition, coverage, height, phytovolume, consumption rate) in the 1 m2 plots, last visited in May. 2020, from the fall burn with grazing, fall burn without grazing and spring burn with grazing zones.

On the other hand, soil samples were carried out (24 samples in each of the sampling areas described above) to which physical-chemical analyzes will be carried out.

During the same days, a drone flight was carried out carrying RGB and multispectral sensors in order to estimate the phytovolume of the areas as a whole and of 1 x 1 m plots evaluated, as well as of different species, through the images acquired. . Each plot was georeferenced with a precision GPS and marked with a target to be easily located in the images acquired by the drone.

Likewise, in order to validate the phytovolume values in the field with those estimated by the images, 10 specimens of each of the following species were tagged in the field: Macrochloa tenacissima, Helianthemun almeriense, Bupleurum spinosum, Genista scorpius; Helictotrichon filifolium; Salvia lavandulifolia and Lavandula lanata.
