SUDOE Programme

The Territorial Cooperation of the South-East European Space Programme (SUDOE) supports regional development through the co-financing of transnational projects through FEDER (European Regional Development Fund).

Public actors from Spanish, French, Portuguese and British (Gibraltar) regions can contribute to the growth and sustainable development of this South-East European space by developing transnational cooperation projects with regard to innovation, environment, new information technologies and sustainable urban development. Working together, these regional actors contribute to south-east Europe achieving European Union strategies with regard to growth, employment and sustainable development. Transnational cooperation began at the South-East European space with the Community Initiative INTERREG III B SUDOE. Placed in the context of the Objective of European Regional Policy, the INTERREG IV B SUDOE Territorial Cooperation programme is the direct successor of the INTERREG III B SUDOE programme.

After preparing an analysis of south-west Europe on demographics, its socioeconomic, environmental, etc. characteristics, the main objective pursued to develop a strategy that assesses its strengths and corrects its weaknesses is to consolidate south-east Europe with territorial cooperation in the fields of competition and innovation, the environment, sustainable development and spatial planning that contributes to ensuring the harmonious and balanced integration of its regions within economic and social cohesion.
