Resilient Landscapes to face catastrophic forest fires

24 octubre 2019

Recently, October 14-15, 2019, the International Conference entitled Resilient landscapes to face catastrophic forest fires was held in Madrid. The conference, organized by the European Forest Institute (EFI) and by the National Institute of Agricultural and Agrifood Research and Technology (INIA), featured prestigious international speakers in the comprehensive management of fires, and illustrious guests from the world of politics like the former Spanish president Felipe González and former Finnish prime minister Esko Aho. The Felipe González Foundation has recently created the Leverage on Megaincendios, a pioneering social initiative in Spain, which seeks to encourage proactive forest management to address the problem of rural abandonment and the risk of large fires in the face of a climate change scenario. Members of the OPEN2PRESERVE project were present at this international conference where the adaptation of the territory to global change was discussed through the creation of resilient landscapes, and the transmission of information to social agents and managers, also main objectives of our SUDOE project.
