Summer Course OPEN2PRESERVE Catalonia

The summer course of Open2Preserve de Catalunya took place on July 2 and 3, which was organized by the Autonomous University of Barcelona. During the course, topics such as prescribed burning, grazing for sustainable management and the conservation of open mountain spaces were discussed.

The course began on the morning of 2 in Cerdanyola del Vallès with the presentations of Meritxell Rota on the 2030 Agenda for rural development, Marc Castellnou on land management strategies based on the prescribed fire, Francesc Reguant on challenges and perspectives of the sector agrarian of the 21st century, Rosa Maria Canals on Open2Preserve and Ana Belén Robles on the network of grass-fire areas of Andalusia. Already in the afternoon, after lunch, presentations were made by Jean Paul Métailié on local development for the management of the territory with the use of fire and herbivory in southern France and Marc Gracia on the LifePolyfarming project. At the end of the day there was a round table with all the speakers of the day, moderated by Josefina Plaixats.

The second and last day of the course was held in the Montseny Natural Park, where participants could see in situ the pilot experience that is being carried out in the Pla de la Calma. During the departure there were different presentations: Lluís Martínez (Management of the Natural Park of Montseny), Ignasi Martínez (The municipal workshop of Tagamanent), Manel Anglada (Rancher of the pilot experience of Montseny), Etel Arilla (The burns prescribed in the Montseny) , Josefina Plaixats (The pilot experience of Open2Preserve in the Montseny), Ricard Baqués (Management of the Serra de Llaberia), Laia Aguilà (Artisan of the wool) and Guillem Canaleta (Project Ramats de Foc). At the end of the Day the participants were able to enjoy a meal with local products.

The course was well received by the public, with 50 people on the first day and 35 on the second.
