Study on the use of traditional fire and grazing techniques in Mirandela

On May 3, a fire was carried out on a plot of land considered as a pilot, located near Ribeira das Carvas, Vimieiro, with the objective of implementing a study on the use of traditional fire and grazing techniques in space management open mountain. This essay is the responsibility of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança – Escola Superior Agrária (IPB-ESA), under the “Open2preserve” project and is financed by the European Social Fund.

The fire was carried out by the Mirandela Intervention, Protection and Relief Group (GIPS), with the participation of one element (operational fire) of the Mirandela Volunteer Firefighters, in partnership with the City Council, through the Municipal Protection Service Civil-Forest Technical Office (SMPC-GTF), in the scope of carrying out extensive burnings at no cost to the applicant.
From the IPB participated the teachers and researchers Marina Castro, responsible for the participation of the IPB in this project and João Paulo Castro, a member of the team.
